IFM PN2015 Pressure Sensor with Display – IO-Link Ready Solution for Vacuum and Low-Pressure Monitoring

The IFM PN2015 is an electronic pressure sensor with an integrated digital display, designed for reliable monitoring of vacuum and low positive pressure in industrial automation systems. It combines a robust ceramic-capacitive measuring cell, multiple switching and analogue outputs, and IO-Link communication in a compact housing that is easy to integrate into new or existing machines. 安辉科技+1

With a measuring range from -1…6 bar (vacuum to low pressure), the PN2015 is ideal for applications such as pneumatic circuits, vacuum handling systems, compressors, and general machine hydraulics operating in the low-pressure range. The bright red/green four-digit display allows operators to see at a glance whether the process value is within the target window, reducing the risk of misadjustment and simplifying on-site diagnostics.

Design and Operating Principle

At the heart of the PN2015 is a ceramic-capacitive measuring cell, which converts process pressure into an electrical signal. This technology offers excellent long-term stability, high overload resistance, and very good behaviour in vacuum applications. The ceramic cell is resistant to many industrial media, including compressed air, neutral gases and many hydraulic or cooling fluids, making the sensor suitable for a wide variety of installations.

The device measures relative pressure, so the reading is referenced against ambient atmospheric pressure. This also allows it to measure vacuum down to -1 bar. The internal signal is processed digitally, which enables fine resolution, low hysteresis, and stable switch points over time. Temperature compensation is built in so that accuracy is maintained across the rated temperature range, with typical temperature coefficients of less than ±0.2 % of span per 10 K.

On the front of the sensor, a four-digit alphanumeric display shows the current process value. The display can switch between red and green, and the user can define at which ranges the colour changes. This makes it very easy to implement “good / bad” or “in tolerance / out of tolerance” visual signalling directly at the measurement point. Programming keys on the front panel allow local parameter adjustment without any external tools.

Outputs, IO-Link, and Flexible Configuration

One of the most practical advantages of the IFM PN2015 is its flexible combination of outputs. The device offers:

  • Two digital switching outputs, which can be configured individually as normally open or normally closed.

  • One analogue output that can be selected as a 4…20 mA current or a 0…10 V voltage signal.

  • The option to use IO-Link communication on one of the outputs, enabling detailed process and diagnostic data to be transmitted to the control system.

Each switching output can be assigned to different switching functions (for example, simple hysteresis mode or window mode), with freely adjustable switch and reset points. This means that the same device can act as both a low-pressure monitor and a vacuum limit switch within the same machine, or it can provide two independent switching thresholds for more complex control strategies.

Using IO-Link, engineers can:

  • Access the current process value in digital form.

  • Read out diagnostic information and device status.

  • Perform parameterization from the PLC or engineering software, including scaling of the analogue output, setting of units, and configuration of outputs.

Data storage via IO-Link also simplifies maintenance: if a sensor must be replaced, the PLC can automatically download the stored parameter set to the new device, reducing commissioning time and preventing configuration errors.

Mechanical Integration and Installation

The PN2015 uses a G 1/4 internal thread connection, which is widely used in pneumatic and hydraulic systems. This allows the sensor to be installed in manifolds, piping, or adapter blocks without special fittings. Because the pressure rating of the housing is up to 40 bar and the burst pressure up to 100 bar, the device is mechanically robust enough to withstand pressure peaks that occur in many machines.

The upper part of the housing can be rotated by approximately 345°, so the display and buttons can always be aligned towards the operator, even when the sensor is mounted in tight spaces or at awkward angles. This makes commissioning easier and improves readability in the field.

A typical installation process includes:

  1. Mount the sensor in the process connection with a suitable seal.

  2. Connect the M12 connector to the control cabinet using an appropriate cable that ensures IP65/IP67 protection.

  3. Apply supply voltage (18…30 V DC).

  4. Configure switching outputs, units, and display colour behaviour via the front-panel buttons or via IO-Link parameterization.

Because current consumption is below 35 mA and the outputs are protected against short circuit and overload, integration into typical 24 V DC control systems is straightforward.

Typical Applications

Thanks to its combination of vacuum capability, low-pressure range, and flexible outputs, the IFM PN2015 is highly versatile. Common application areas include:

  • Vacuum handling systems
Monitoring vacuum level in suction grippers, pick-and-place equipment, or packaging lines to ensure sufficient suction force and detect leaks early.

  • Pneumatic circuits and air preparation units
Supervising supply line pressure, filter/regulator outlet pressure, or pilot lines in pneumatic actuators, ensuring stable machine operation and enabling predictive maintenance.

  • Low-pressure hydraulic circuits and cooling systems
Controlling pressure in lubrication systems, coolant circuits, or auxiliary hydraulic lines where the range up to 6 bar is sufficient and fine resolution is beneficial.

  • Pump and compressor skid monitoring
Providing local indication and electrical signals for small compressors or vacuum pumps, with IO-Link enabling integration into higher-level monitoring systems or condition monitoring platforms.

  • General OEM machinery
Machine builders can standardize on the PN2015 for many low-pressure tasks, simplifying spare parts management and reducing engineering time thanks to the common parameter set and IO-Link tools.

Benefits for OEMs and Plant Operators

For machine builders, the PN2015 offers a compact way to implement measurement, switching, display and communication in one device instead of combining separate mechanical gauges, pressure switches and transmitters. Fewer components mean fewer potential leak points, reduced wiring effort and a cleaner machine design.

For plant operators, IO-Link connectivity provides easy access to process values, diagnostics and parameter sets without needing to open the cabinet or stand directly at the machine. In combination with the red/green display, operators receive both local visual feedback and central data in the PLC or SCADA system, which improves transparency and speeds up troubleshooting.

The robust mechanical design, IP65/IP67 protection, and wide temperature range from -25 to 80 °C allow the sensor to operate reliably even in harsh conditions, such as damp environments, washdown areas or temperature-fluctuating workshops. Long-term stability and low drift help maintain measurement accuracy over months and years, reducing the frequency of recalibration.

Summary

The IFM PN2015 pressure sensor with display is a compact, flexible, and communication-ready device for vacuum and low-pressure monitoring. Its wide range of configuration options, dual switching outputs, scalable analogue output, and IO-Link interface make it suitable for both simple machines and modern digitalized production systems. For users who need a single sensor family to cover many low-pressure tasks, the PN2015 is a strong candidate that combines measurement performance, robustness, and ease of integration in one platform.
