The IFM PN7093 is an electronic pressure monitor with an integrated digital display, designed for precise and repeatable measurement of relative pressure in industrial systems. The device measures relative pressure, meaning the measured value is referenced to ambient atmospheric pressure rather than absolute vacuum. This is exactly what most hydraulic and pneumatic systems require, since setpoints and safety limits are usually specified in bar(g) instead of bar(a).

The electronic evaluation circuit converts the sensor signal into a digital value that is used internally for switching and for IO-Link process data. The sensor provides a fast response time, with a minimum switching response in the millisecond range and a switching frequency of up to 170 Hz, which allows reliable monitoring even in dynamic systems with rapid pressure fluctuations. 

Display, user interface and mechanical design

On the front of the device, the PN7093 offers a 4-digit alphanumeric display that can show the current pressure in bar, psi or MPa. • Long-term stability of less than ±0.05 % of span over six months. 

Temperature coefficients are tightly controlled, with small zero and span drift in the operating range from -25 °C to +80 °C. For the user, this translates into stable switching thresholds and reliable long-term behaviour, even when the machine environment is far from laboratory conditions.

The device has IP65/IP67 ingress protection and has been tested for shock (up to 50 g) and vibration (up to 20 g in the 10–2000 Hz range), which is important for mounting on moving machinery or in areas with frequent mechanical shocks. The calculated MTTF is over 200 years, and the sensor is rated for at least 100 million switching cycles, underlining its suitability for continuous industrial duty.

Installation, commissioning and parameter setting

During installation, the G 1/4 process thread should be tightened using the recommended torque range (typically 25–35 Nm according to the manufacturer) to ensure proper sealing without overstressing the connection. A compatible sealing ring or thread seal should be selected based on the medium and mechanical requirements. 

Electrical connection is via a standard M12 4-pin connector with gold-plated contacts, which improves contact reliability in environments that experience vibration, condensation or repeated connection cycles. Pin assignment follows typical IFM conventions, and core colours are documented in the datasheet for fast wiring. 

Parameter setting can be done either:

• Locally with the three front buttons and the display, ideal for one-off adjustment on the machine.

• Remotely through IO-Link, using the PLC engineering software or an IO-Link configuration tool.

Using IO-Link is especially convenient for OEMs: default parameter sets can be stored at the controller level and downloaded to each sensor automatically during commissioning or after replacement, reducing manual work and the risk of configuration errors.
