Product Description

Product Overview

The Yaskawa GA50U2006ABA is a 240 V class GA500 variable frequency drive designed for three-phase input power and three-phase motor control. It provides a Normal Duty rating of 1.5 HP or 1.1 kW with 6.0 A output current. Under Heavy Duty selection, the rating is 1 HP or 0.75 kW with 5.0 A output current.

This model is intended for compact industrial machinery requiring adjustable motor speed, controlled acceleration and deceleration, motor protection and automation-system integration. The IP20 protected chassis must be installed inside a suitable control enclosure.

Model-Specific Rating and Selection

GA50U2006ABA is positioned between GA50U2004ABA and GA50U2010ABA in the 240 V three-phase GA500 range. Its 6 A Normal Duty rating is suitable for moderate-overload applications, while the 5 A Heavy Duty rating should be used when the load requires higher starting torque or repeated acceleration.

The 1.5 HP Normal Duty and 1 HP Heavy Duty ratings are not interchangeable. A technician should check the motor full-load current and operating cycle instead of selecting the drive only by nominal horsepower.

Motor Control Technology

The GA500 platform supports V/f control and open-loop vector control for induction motors and can operate compatible permanent-magnet motors. V/f control is useful for straightforward speed-control applications, while open-loop vector control can provide improved torque and speed regulation when the motor parameters are correctly configured.

Motor nameplate voltage, current, base frequency, speed and power should be entered during commissioning. Autotuning requirements depend on the selected motor and control mode. The driven machine must be placed in a safe condition before any tuning procedure that may rotate the shaft.

Control, Safety and Communication

Configurable digital and analog functions support start and stop commands, direction selection, speed references, multi-step speeds, fault inputs and operating-status outputs. Embedded RS-485 communication supports MEMOBUS/Modbus RTU integration. Other network protocols require compatible GA500 communication options.

The drive platform includes Safe Torque Off rated SIL3 under IEC 62061 and PLe under ISO 13849-1 when incorporated into a correctly engineered safety system. STO prevents motor-producing torque but does not electrically isolate the incoming supply or motor terminals.

Application Engineering

Suitable applications include small conveyors, feeders, pumps, fans, packaging machines, light mixers and auxiliary machine axes. For conveyor applications, confirm loaded starting torque and breakaway resistance. For pumps and fans, verify minimum operating speed and process requirements.

The built-in braking transistor allows connection of an external braking resistor. The resistor must be selected from the required resistance, braking energy and operating duty. It is not included as part of the standard drive.

Installation and Commissioning Notes

Confirm that the incoming supply is three phase and within the applicable 240 V class. Provide correct upstream protection, grounding, motor cable and control-cabinet ventilation. Separate motor wiring from analog and communication cables to reduce electrical interference. Review applicable derating for ambient temperature, altitude, carrier frequency and mounting arrangement.

Replacement Checklist

  • Confirm the complete GA50U2006ABA order code.
  • Verify 240 V class three-phase input power.
  • Select between 6.0 A ND and 5.0 A HD operation.
  • Compare the rating with the motor nameplate current.
  • Record parameters and terminal assignments.
  • Verify STO, communication and braking connections.
  • Test motor direction and machine interlocks safely.

Related GA500 Models

GA50U2004ABA covers a lower output range. GA50U2010ABA provides 9.6 A Normal Duty and 8 A Heavy Duty output and should be considered where additional motor-current capacity is required.
