2. Measuring Range and Performance
The IFM PN7593 is optimised for applications in the low to medium pressure range, with a measuring span of 0 to 25 bar. This makes it an excellent choice for compressed air systems, low-pressure hydraulic circuits, coolant lines, lubrication systems and many general machine-building tasks where 25 bar is more than sufficient.
At the heart of the device is a ceramic-capacitive pressure measuring cell. This technology offers very good long-term stability, excellent corrosion resistance to many media and high overload capability in relation to the nominal measuring range. Thanks to this measuring principle, the PN7593 provides repeatable switching behaviour and a typical accuracy around ±0.5% of full scale, which is sufficient not only for simple on/off switching but also for basic process monitoring and data logging.
The sensor is rated for continuous operation up to 150 bar and can withstand short-term pressure peaks up to 350 bar without mechanical failure. This substantial safety margin is important wherever pressure spikes occur, for example when valves close quickly, pumps start up, or lines are vented.
3. Mechanical Design and Process Interface
The PN7593 is designed with a G 1/4 external thread and an internal M5 port, which is widely used in European and global machinery for connecting pressure sensors to manifolds, blocks and pipe systems. This allows direct installation into many standard process connections without adapters.
The wetted parts and housing are engineered for industrial use, providing resistance to common media such as hydraulic oils, water-based fluids and compressed air (subject to media compatibility and the limitations for gases). For gaseous media, the manufacturer specifies that the application should remain within the 25 bar range, which matches the measuring span of the device.
A practical feature common to the PN series is the rotatable sensor head. The upper housing of the PN7593 can be rotated by roughly 345°, allowing the display and pushbuttons to be oriented correctly after the sensor has been tightened into the process connection. This is especially useful for installations in tight cabinets or on manifolds where straight-ahead viewing is not possible.
The combination of IP65/IP67 protection, robust housing materials and a medium/ambient temperature range of -25…80 °C ensures that the PN7593 can withstand typical factory environments, including areas with splashing coolant, oil mist or occasional wash-down.
4. Electrical Design, Outputs and IO-Link
Electrically, the IFM PN7593 runs from a DC supply between 18 and 30 V, with current consumption below 35 mA. It uses an M12 4-pin connector with gold-plated contacts to ensure reliable connection even when vibration or humidity is present.
The sensor provides two fully programmable switching outputs. Each output can be configured individually as PNP or NPN, and as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). The outputs can handle up to 150 mA continuously (higher at lower ambient temperatures) and are protected against short circuits and overload. The maximum switching frequency of under 170 Hz is more than sufficient for pressure control functions in most industrial systems.
One of the outputs can alternatively operate as an IO-Link interface. In IO-Link mode, the PN7593 becomes an intelligent field device capable of exchanging digital process values, device status and parameter data with an IO-Link master. Parameters such as measuring units, switching points, hysteresis, filter times and output behaviour can be set remotely and cloned to other sensors of the same type. This simplifies commissioning, especially in machines with many identical pressure measuring points.
5. Display and Local Operation
On the front of the sensor, the PN7593 features a 4-digit alphanumeric display that alternates between red and green indication. Many users choose to program the colour change so that green represents normal operation and red indicates an alarm condition or out-of-range pressure.
Below and beside the display are LED indicators that show the active unit (bar, psi or MPa) and the switching status of the outputs. Programming buttons provide a straightforward way to navigate through the menu structure and adjust parameters such as:
-
Switching mode (hysteresis or window)
-
Set point and reset point for each output
-
Damping and response time
-
Output logic (PNP/NPN, NO/NC)
-
Analogue and IO-Link behaviour where supported
This local user interface allows many basic installations to be configured directly at the sensor without a laptop. In more advanced IO-Link installations, the display still gives valuable at-a-glance information for operators and maintenance staff during daily checks or troubleshooting.
6. Typical Applications
Because of its 0…25 bar measuring range and robust ceramic cell, the IFM PN7593 fits a wide variety of tasks where moderate pressures must be monitored reliably, for example:
-
Compressed air distribution – monitoring main line pressure, local branch pressure or compressor discharge pressure in factory air systems.
-
Cooling and lubrication circuits – supervising pressure in coolant pumps, spindle lubrication systems, or circulation pumps to protect equipment from dry-running or clogged filters.
-
General machine building – integrating into skid-mounted equipment, packaging machinery, material handling systems and assembly lines as a compact pressure switch with local display.
-
Low-pressure hydraulic circuits – such as clamping systems, auxiliary hydraulic circuits or pilot pressure lines, where large overload reserve is beneficial.
-
OEM systems with repetitive layouts – using IO-Link to standardise configuration and simplify replacement in machines built in series.
7. Benefits for OEMs and Plant Operators
For OEMs, the PN7593 offers a standardised pressure platform for low to medium pressure applications: one sensor covers a broad set of machine types while providing dual switching outputs, IO-Link capability and a familiar G 1/4 connection. This reduces part diversity and simplifies documentation and spare-parts management.
For plant operators and maintenance teams, the main advantages are:
-
Clear, colour-coded local indication with numeric display.
-
Flexible switching logic that can often replace two mechanical switches.
-
High overload and burst ratings relative to the measuring range, giving a comfortable safety margin.
-
IO-Link integration for remote parameterisation and diagnostics.
Overall, the IFM PN7593 pressure sensor with display is a versatile, robust and easy-to-use device for monitoring 0…25 bar in industrial automation, combining modern communication features with proven mechanical and electrical design.
